Storage insurance for deregistered vehicles

If your vehicle is registered as sold, scrapped, stolen, or we are informed that your lease agreement has been terminated, the insurance will be fully terminated.

You do not need to hand the licence plates from a deregistered vehicle to a traffic station.

It costs nothing to deregister your vehicle, and nothing to register it again.

If you haven’t paid the registration fee when you change ownership, you’ll have to pay it when you register your vehicle again.

You can insure unregistered vehicles, motorcycles, as well as vintage cars and vehicles, with storage insurance. This will insure the vehicle against, for example, fire and theft when it is stored.

This is a good temporary insurance policy for people who already have an unregistered car or motorcycle. If you already have an insurance policy with us and deregister your car or motorcycle for part of the year, you will be able to get storage insurance automatically.

Remember that all registered vehicles have an insurance obligation.

If you have bought or sold a car, the new owner must purchase car insurance before the vehicle is re-registered.

When the sales notification has been submitted to the Norwegian Public Roads Administration, the buyer must insure the vehicle with at least a liability coverage before the re-registration fee can be paid.

When a vehicle is sold, the insurance to the seller will automatically be terminated once the sales notification has been approved by the Norwegian Public Roads Administration.

To register an unregistered car, you must first buy car insurance. You can choose from liability, mini comprehensive, comprehensive and fully comprehensive.
