Watch insurance
If you have a watch with a high value, it’s worth insuring it.
What does watch insurance cover?
Many watches have a high value – not only sentimentally, but also as particularly expensive items. A watch insurance policy will cover damage, accidents and theft, and secure you financially when you need it.
In some cases, a watch may be covered by home contents insurance or travel insurance . The advantage of watch insurance is that you’re covered for most events, with a low excess – at home, while travelling and while in use.

Max. insurance settlement | Full settlement payment | NOK 300 000 (maximum NOK 50 000 in case of accident) | Up to NOK 40 000 (combined per insurance event) |
Coverage of accidents in a household is only covered on top of home contents insurance, and to a limited extent compared to watch insurance.

To prevent money laundering, we need documentation before you can insure your watch.
Requirements for watch insurance
When buying watch insurance, you need to show some documentation of the watch and that you own it. This is due to strict money laundering rules.
To insure the watch, we need the following documentation
- receipt
- a recent valuation, in your name, from a watchmaker if the watch is more than two years old or if the purchase price cannot be documented
- how the watch was paid for
- who paid the watch, i.e. a copy of the payment transaction
- photo of the watch, case and certificates
- purchase contract if the watch has been purchased
- if you ’ve inherited or got the watch as a gift, we’ll need the name of the giver
- paid customs and fees if the watch was purchased abroad
The insurance value of the watch
The insurance value of the watch cannot be higher than the new price from a Norwegian watchmaker. If you have bought the watch used but at a lower price than the new price in the store, the purchase price will be the insurance value.
