Sustainable transition
DNB finances the climate transition and is a driving force for sustainable value creation.
DNB shall be a driving force for sustainable transition.
One of DNB’s key strategic ambitions is to deliver sustainable value creation by creating profitable growth and making choices that will stand the test of time. To fulfil this ambition, we will support our customers through the climate transition, reduce ESG risk in our portfolios and proactively engage with external stakeholders. DNB’s three sustainable ambitions, which were launched in 2021, elaborate on how we should achieve this.
Our transition plan is a continuation of sustainability ambitions that were launched in 2021. The plan is an important strategic tool that helps us understand the business implications of our net zero obligation, and to navigate the challenges and opportunities that climate change and the transition to a low carbon economy present. The plan describes how we at DNB will be driving the transformation, and the tools we have at hand to engage us and guide our customers and the companies we invest in to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions.

Target for sustainable financing
It requires significant investments to build new businesses and reorganise existing ones. DNB will help finance this transition and contribute to sustainable activities, solutions, investments and innovation.
DNB’s target for sustainable financing:
- DNB will be a driving force for sustainable transition by financing, investing in and facilitating sustainable activities to a value of NOK 1 500 billion up to 2030.
- DNB will increase the total assets of funds with a sustainability profile to NOK 200 billion by 2025.
- By 2025, 50 per cent of the net flow will go to a fund with a sustainability profile.
DNB as a lender:
As a major lender, we have real influence on our customers at DNB. We therefore integrate sustainability into the entire financing process, and make demands on both new and existing customers. We also have ongoing dialogue about challenges and opportunities related to the companies’ own sustainability efforts.
By setting accountability requirements, we can influence positive social development and also reduce our customers’ and our own risk. We also offer a number of products that will contribute to promoting sustainability.

Responsible and sustainable investments:
DNB manages significant values on behalf of its customers through DNB Livsforsikring, through the management of mutual funds and active portfolios in our asset management company DNB Asset Management (DAM) and through the Group’s equity investments.
We are continually working to ensure that investments are responsible and sustainable, which involves safeguarding the ESG factors (environment and climate, social relationships and ownership management) in the management of the investments, as well as contributing to sustainable development.
Other prioritised sustainability themes
DNB will also contribute positively to other sustainability challenges, through advisory services, innovation, expectations and requirements. Among the themes that are high on our agenda are circular economy, nature and biodiversity, start-ups and growth businesses and innovation.
