Travel advice from the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs

The Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issues travel advice when Norwegian authorities believe it is not safe to travel to or stay in a specific country or area. The reason for the travel advice is usually war or unrest in a country, but there may also be natural disasters or health-related travel advice, for example in connection with pandemics.

You’ll find countries with travel advice on the Norwegian government’s website. You’ll also find useful travel information for all other countries. Travel information is not advice like travel warnings, but can still contain useful information you need when traveling.

Travel advice and insurance

The travel insurance policy does not cover you for trips to areas that the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises against travelling to or staying in. This is why you are covered by cancellation insurance in the travel insurance policy, which gives you a refund if you need to cancel a trip as a result of travel advice from the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The trip must not have been subject to travel advice at the time of booking or payment.

The travel insurance policy also covers evacuation while travelling if you are in a country or area when it becomes subject to travel advice.

What help can I get?

• The travel insurance policy can cover evacuation from affected areas if the local authorities order evacuation. Remember that you must contact your tour operator or airline first to find out what they cover.
• The travel insurance policy can cover the cancellation of the trip if you are travelling to an affected area where local authorities have ordered an evacuation. The trip must have been purchased before the evacuation commenced on 10 November. Remember that you must contact your tour operator or airline first to find out what they cover.
• If your flight is affected by a volcanic eruption, you must contact your tour operator or airline.
