Get started with Google Pay
Google Pay is an easy way to pay, replacing your physical card with a smartphone, tablet or other supported device, such as a smartwatch. When you set up Google Pay, a token is created. The token is a digital version of your physical bank card.
You can use Google Pay on phones, tablets and other supported devices with the Android operating system. For the service to work, it requires the device to have version 5.0 or newer with a built-in NFC (Near Field Communication).
In order to use Google Pay, you need a device with an Android operating system and a Visa or Mastercard from DNB, as well as a Norwegian mobile number. If you have this in place, you can follow these steps:
- Download the Google Pay app in the Google Play Store on your Android device
- Select "payment method" and enter the chosen DNB card
- Accept terms and conditions
- Enter the confirmation code you receive
Google Pay is now ready to use.
You can add all DNB Visa and Mastercard cards that support contactless payment, look for the contactless symbol on your card.
If you want to order a card, this can be done here
If you already have a Google Play account and a Google ID where you have previously entered your card details, these will appear in the Google Pay app.
Use of Google Pay
You can pay with Google Pay at all payment terminals that accept Visa and Mastercard contactless payments, both in Norway and abroad. Google Pay can also be used at online stores and apps that offer Google Pay as a payment option. If you see one of the symbols above, Google Pay can be used.
For payments below NOK 500, activate the screen and hold your device over a payment terminal.
For payments above NOK 500, you are required to unlock the phone/tablet/device by code, fingerprint or face recognition.
There are no fees for using Google Pay.
No, you don’t need a PIN to pay with Google Pay. However, for payments above NOK 500, you are required to unlock the phone/tablet/device by code, fingerprint or face recognition.
After the payment is made, you will see a white tick in the blue circle above the card on your screen, showing the payment is approved.
Security and Google Pay
Just like other unknown transactions, you can query it when logged in to the online bank.
We recommend that you secure your phone/tablet with a code. This will limit the risk of misuse. We recommend that you get in touch to block the digital credit card that is connected to Google Pay. You can block this by contacting customer services on +47 91504800 or using the chat when logged in to the online bank.
It is possible to block the digital bank card and the physical bank card independently of each other. This way you’ll avoid having to order a new physical card if you’ve only lost your device with Google Pay.
Please note that blocking the physical bank card may also cause the digital bank card to be blocked. In these cases, Google Pay cannot be used.
Yes, DNB conducted a thorough security assessment before adding Google Pay as a new payment solution in DNB. Google Pay has been assessed as meeting all DNB’s security requirements.
If you choose to download and install the Google Pay app, you accept Google’s terms of use, and you thereby consent to sharing transaction data with Google. This only applies to transactions made with Google Pay. You can withdraw your consent at any time by deregistering your payment card. You can deregister your card in Google Pay or by contacting DNB. If you don’t use Google Pay, no information will be transferred to Google.
