The financial industry plays an important role in transitioning to a green and sustainable society and business sector. At the same time, climate change and other sustainability challenges are creating a need to integrate new risks into financial analyses and decisions.
Sustainable finance is therefore about both financing green and sustainable activities and taking into account the new risks and vulnerabilities that the business sector faces in terms of sustainability.

EU’s work on sustainable finance
The EU has set itself very ambitious goals in terms of the environment and sustainability. In order to achieve these goals, the EU is completely dependent on large amounts of capital being channelled into the sustainable transition. In addition, climate change and other sustainability challenges present a new type of risk that can have consequences for financial stability.
In order to meet these challenges, the EU has in recent years launched a number of legislative proposals for sustainability and green finance. In particular, the EU classification system for sustainable economic activities, the taxonomy, has received a lot of attention.
The EU’s taxonomy is an essential part of the EU’s work on sustainable finance, but a number of other rules and legislation and initiatives are also being produced in this area. Within a short period of time, these will also be applied to Norwegian businesses.
